I. Meaning and Content of the Privacy Policy, Applicable Legal Bases
This data protection declaration is intended to give the user (from now on, only the female form will be used for the sake of better readability) the opportunity to find out what kind of data we collect, for what purposes, where it is stored and what she can do about data that she does not want to make available to us or no longer wants to make available to us.
The offer of Shopping Total is primarily intended for persons residing in Switzerland. For persons who live in the EU, the European Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies. For persons residing in Switzerland, Swiss law (Federal Law on Data Protection, DSG) applies in principle.

III. scope of the processing of personal data
As a matter of principle, we only process personal data insofar as this is necessary for the provision of a functional website and its contents and services.
IV. Legal basis and storage period
We process personal data in accordance with Swiss data protection law (in particular Art. 12 et seq. of the Federal Data Protection Act, FADP). In other respects, we process – to the extent and insofar as the DSGVO is applicable – in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 DSGVO lit. a-d and f.
This means, in particular, that we process personal data insofar as the user has given her explicit consent to do so (Article 6 (1) (a) DSGVO) or in order to protect the legitimate interests of us or of third parties, unless the fundamental freedoms and rights and interests of the user prevail (Article 6 (1) (f) DSGVO).
As a rule, data is only stored for the period necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was collected. Deviating specifications through legal requirements that are binding for Shopping Total remain reserved.
V. Cookies
Cookies are text files that are stored in the Internet browser or by the Internet browser on the user’s computer system. Our website uses cookies. When a user calls up a website, a cookie may be stored on her operating system. These cookies each contain a characteristic character string that enables the browser to be uniquely identified when the website is called up again.
We use so-called session cookies to optimize our online offer. This file does not contain any personal data and is deleted after the user closes the browser.
The user can adjust the setting in the browser she uses so that she is informed in advance about the setting of cookies and can decide in individual cases whether the acceptance of cookies should be excluded for certain cases or generally. This may limit the functionality of the website.
Specifically:
For statistical analysis, we use the open source tool for web analysis from “Matomo” (formerly “Piwik”).
Matomo uses cookies, which allow us to analyze the use of the website and evaluate usage behavior. The IP address of the user is anonymized immediately. The information generated by the cookie about the use of this website will not be disclosed to third parties.
VI. provision of the website and creation of log files
Our hosting provider, Hostpoint AG, Rapperswil-Jona, creates so-called log files on its servers. It does this in order to be able to provide its services reliably, in a technically flawless manner and also in compliance with the law. These contain information such as:
- IP addresses
- Date and time
- Protocol information such as protocol type, version, the desired action, status codes or information about the transferred data (e.g. the size of a question or an answer)
- Error messages
- Depending on the application-specific information such as message IDs in the case of e-mails or, in the case of web access, information on the browser used (user agent string) or, if applicable, the page from which the visitor has accessed the website
This applies not only to interactions with websites, but also to all services such as e-mail (SMTP, POP, IMAP), FTP, SSH etc.
The data remains on Hostpoint’s systems until the operational necessity ceases to exist and the statutory or contractual time limits expire, after which it is automatically deleted. For most data, this is a maximum of six months.
VII. Use of the contact options via the website (contact form and e-mail)
Our website contains a contact form that can be used for electronic contact. If a user takes advantage of this option, the data entered in the input mask will be transmitted to us and stored.
The following data is also stored at the time the message is sent:
- The IP address of the user
- Date and time of registration
Alternatively, it is possible to contact us via the e-mail address provided. In this case, the personal data of the user transmitted with the e-mail will be stored.
VIII. Rights of the users of the website affected by the data processing
The users are entitled to the rights arising from the data protection legislation and, if and to the extent applicable, from the GDPR. These result from chapter 3 of the GDPR. They are:
- Right to confirmation and information
- Right to rectification
- Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”)
- Right to restriction of processing
- Right to data portability
- Right of objection
- The right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling.
- Right to revoke consent under data protection law

IX. Amendment of this privacy policy
Shopping Total reserves the right to change this privacy policy at any time. Changes will be published on the website and become effective upon posting.
